This week, I’m doing something new and expanding on my old Inclusionary “Gamer” Girl posts! Instead of just writing about games I played, I took some time to explore a segment of YouTube known as “Let’s Play” videos or “LP’s” and then created my own as I finally got around to playing BioShock 2 for the very first time.

Despite the fact that I’ve been playing video games since the days of the Atari 2600, I’ve never been particularly great at them and first person shooters seem to constantly elude my abilities. I swear a lot, talk at the game, and yell at myself a lot.

This entire Let’s Play thing has been a process but an interesting one. My husband is super into YouTube gaming videos so he insisted I learn to do it right. He had me watching a lot of videos to get acquainted and, while I doubt I’m doing it right (though everyone has their own style), I spent a good amount of time learning how to use OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) and Audacity. I tweaked settings, got a better mic and then, when I finally got everything to a point that I could live with, I got myself some decent, inexpensive video editing software. The editing part is frustratingly tricky and, frankly, I’m awestruck by YouTubers who put content up every day.

My gamer handle is LadySkyMack. Years ago, my husband started going by SkyMack and I thought it would be funny to co-opt it. This is the first video going up for what will eventually be our little collective called Empty Brain Entertainment. Eventually, he plans to teach me how to play Minecraft and other games and we’ll play together and probably yell at each other and laugh at how bad I am.

This first video is on the long side, about an hour, but subsequent videos are in more digestible packages of 25-30 minutes.  I’ll probably release one a week until my editing chops get better. 🙂

So without further ado… Get comfy and come play BioShock 2 with me. 🙂

Have a favorite older game you haven’t played in awhile? Did you play BioShock 2? What’d did you think? Tell me in the comments!
